General purpose computer algebra system. The project started in 1971 at IBM as a research system named Scratchpad. Scratchpad was renamed to Axiom in the 1990s and sold to NAG, which distributed it as a commercial product until 2001. Axiom is a powerful system, which in the current state "represents about 30 years and 300 man-years of research work".
