LispNYC meeting 8 November 2005 - "The Next Generation of Language Design and why Lisp is Relevant"
Joel Spolsky of "Joel on Software" fame speaks on the next-generation of language design and why Lisp is relevant!
A typical web application today uses five different languages: HTML for content, CSS for design, JavaScript for client-side processing, SQL for database access, and a "back-end" language such as Perl, Java, or Lisp for server-side processing. Joel discusses his vision of a hypothetical new programming language that could accomplish all five of those tasks in a universal syntax such as S-expressions.
Joel is the CEO of Fog Creek Software and the author of several books about software development, management, and business.
Video of the presentation is available on the web site.
